January 10th, 2013 – Junior middleweight prospect Keandre “Lightning” Leatherwood (12-1-1, 8 KOs) will step back into the ring Saturday January 19th against Chicago native Michael Walker in a scheduled 8 rounder on a card being held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Indiana. Leatherwood fights out of Atlanta Georgia, but he was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he helped Olympian and fellow Tuscaloosa born fighter Deontay Wilder in the early stages of his amateur career.  Leatherwood had a standout amateur career in his own right with 120 amateur bouts and appearances in the National Junior Olympics and International Junior Olympics. By Julie Goldsticker of USA Boxing (COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – The first-ever Junior World Team Open will kick off tonight at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nev. The junior division tournament will select the young male boxers who will represent the United States this summer at the 2013 AIBA Junior Men’s World Championships. The first-time event provides valuable competition experience for the nation’s 15 and 16-year-old athletes as the move through the developmental pipeline. MONTREAL (January 4, 2013) – Finally, after much speculation about his next opponent, International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight Carl “The Cobra” Froch (30-2-0, 22 KOs), of Great Britain, is forced to defend his belt against mandatory contender Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (19-1-0, 16 KOs). In a letter from IBF representative Lindsey Tucker, dated January 2, 2013, sent to the promoters of Froch and Stevenson, both parties were invited to negotiate and Jan. 15 was imposed as the deadline.
