2005: David Tua in June Main Event at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino

(MAY 3, 2005) Heavyweight contender David Tua headlines a night of rld class boxing at the Event Center at Turning Stone Resort and Casino on Friday, June 10. Six bouts are on the card, being held in conjunction with Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Weekend, with the action beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Tua (43-3-1, 38 KOs) is scheduled for the ten-round Main Event against a yet-to-be-named opponent. Born in Western Somoa and now residing in Aukland, New Zealand, Tua’s globe-trotting fight resume includes victories over current WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz and former WBC and IBF belt-holder Hasim Rahman. Tua also went toe-to-toe with Lennox Lewis in a world heavyweight title match in November 2000, losing by decision. He is set on regaining a title bid, and is coming off an impressive tenth round TKO of Talmadge Griffis in front of a home crowd in Auckland on March 31.

The co-feature is a ten-round lightweight match with hard-punching “Sugar Ray” Narh (13-1, 12 KOs), a native of Ghana and now fighting out of Pittsburgh, facing Darnell Logan (8-2-1, 4 KOs) of Covington, Tenn.

Heavyweight Shannon Briggs (41-4-1, 35 KOs) of Brownsville, N.Y. returns to Turning Stone in a ten-round match. In his previous appearance in March 2004, Briggs notched a thrilling first-round TKO of Jess Pegues. In 1997, he earned a shot at a world title with a win over George Foreman in an elimination match. He lost the championship bout to Lennox Lewis.

Lou Bizzarro (24-3, 2 KOs) of Erie, Pa. is also returning to the Turning Stone ring for an eight-rounder. The jr. welterweight has ventured to Verona three times, the most recent being a win over Marty Robbins in April 2003.

Upstart Ronald Hearns (5-0, 3 KOs) of the Detroit area will try to maintain his unblemished record in a six-round middleweight bout. He is the son of ex-champ Tommy Hearns.

Also on the docket is New York lightweight Jorge Teron (1-0, 1 KO), who is scheduled for four rounds.
