(MAY 3, 2005) HOLLYWOOD, FL – In addition to its commitment to bringing the best in world-class boxing to fight fans, Warriors Boxing Promotions is firmly vested in the community. With this in mind, on April 26, 2005, the Hollywood-based promotional company donated the purses and sanctioning fees for the IBF United States Atlantic Coast Regional Heavyweight Championship bout between Kendrick Releford and Najee Shaheed in an event to raise funds for tsunami relief, hosted by Richard Dobal Productions, Inc. .
“The scope of devastation caused by the Asian tsunami last year hit home for all of us. Because boxing is truly a global sport, and Indonesia hosts many great events, several people in our boxing community had family members directly touched by this tragedy,” said Warriors Boxing Promotions Executive Vice President, Jessie Robinson. “It’s an honor and privilege for Warriors to donate to this championship bout and help our neighbors across the globe because there’s still so much work to be done to help them rebuild.”
In Tuesday’s championship bout, Warriors Boxing Promotions, Inc.’s Kendrick Releford won his fifth consecutive bout with a dominating 12 round unanimous decision (120 to 108 on all three judges scorecards) win over Najee Shaheed. Releford controlled Shaheed with consistent stiff jabs and thunderous straight right hands. He further confused the south paw, Shaheed, with footwork and solid defense. With this impressive victory, Releford improves to 13-4-1 with 5 KO’s and is looking to move up and fight top ten contenders. After the bout, Releford commented that from here on out, he’s looking for only big fights.
In other featured bouts, Miami Welterweight, Gil Reyes(15-2-1) scored an 8-round victory over Benji Singleton (25-98-5) and Veteran Junior Welterweight, Juan Arroyo scored a 4th round TKO over Jerry Smith.
