(FEB 1) As one of boxing’s best, pound for pound, former World Champion Joel Casamayor knows what it takes to compete at the highest levels of the sport on a consistent basis. On February 24th, ‘El Cepillo’ will show fight fans that he not only still has it, but that he’s ready to make another world title run in 2006 when he competes in the co-featured bout at the Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida, against an opponent to be announced shortly.
This 10 round lightweight bout is part of an exciting night of boxing presented by Warriors Boxing Promotions. The card, which is headlined by the Light Heavyweight showdown between Glen Johnson and Richard Hall for the IBA Light Heavyweight World Title, will also air live on pay-per-view beginning at 9pm ET / 6pm PT.
Despite his impressive 31-3-1 (19 KOs) record, there are many in the boxing industry that feel Joel Casamayor is still undefeated, as they believe controversial decision losses to Jose Luis Castillo, Diego Corrales, and Acelino Freitas should have gone towards the native of Guantanamo, Cuba. Nonetheless, the 34-year-old Casamayor, a former WBA and IBA World Super Featherweight Champion, is still considered to be among the best in the world, with his slick southpaw style, flawless defense and warrior’s heart.
And he’ll be bringing all his tools to the Hard Rock Live Arena at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on February 24th. Also featured on the show will be Heavyweight Timor Ibragimov, top Lightweight contender Ricky Quiles, and rising stars Adailton DeJesus, Samuel Miller, and Erivan Conseicao.
