(AUG 19) Will Tomlinson (19-0) will be fighting on October 26 in Melbourne, Australia against Panamanian Irving Berry (22-3), defending his 130lbs World title. Not underestimating his opponent, but looking toward the future, he is looking forward to possibly fighting Edgar Puerta for his newly crowned 130lbs WBC Silver title in Australia early next year.
Tomlinson said “Our team watched Edgar Puerta anhialate a great fighter in Carlos Cardenas, we believe he is a legitimate World Champion with that WBC Silver belt around his waist and we would like to take that from him. Ultimately setting up a super fight between myself and current 130lbs WBC Champion, Takahiro Ao (23-2) of Japan. We have a proud history in Australia with the WBC and it is the one belt that will be forever remembered for not hitting our shores after the controversial decision to hand Azumah Nelson a draw against the great Jeff Fenech in Las Vegas in 1991.”
“The history of this 130lbs WBC World title continues with our greatest ever Aboriginal fighter losing in his chance for this title in 1971 against Jap, Yoshiaki Numata. I want to bring this title home to Australia where it should have come in 1991 with Jeff Fenech.” said Tomlinson.
Living in Melbourne but training out of Hit Squad Gym in Sydney, Australia, Will Tomlinson’s profile has skyrocketed in recent years. Australia’s most exciting prospect is fast becoming a sporting celebrity in Australia and recently a name to be noticed in Mexico, for his recent bouts with Mexicans Daniel Ruiz (27-5) and his Australian Fight of the Year in 2011 with opponent Alan Herrera (29-4). “I have fought fighters from all around the World, but Mexicans, second to none. The heart, the passion, they will die in that ring, just like Alan (Herrera). He gave me the fight of my life and nearly even walked away with it, he is a force to be reckoned with in the future in World boxing. I am guaranteeing that Alan Herrera is a future Mexican World Champion” said Tomlinson.
