Adding to the list of prominent fighters respectively ex-fighters to attend the upcoming WBF World Convention in Maribor, Slovenia from Sept. 22 to 25 is former three-time world champion Robin Reid from England. His prowess in the ring made him one of Britain’s most popular and successful fighters during the 90ies and early 2000’s and to this day he remains a fan favourite wherever he goes.
The now 45-year-old from Runcorn, who won an Olympic Bronze medal in 1992, held WBF, IBO and WBC world titles during a distinguished 42-8-1 (29) professional career that lasted until 2012. Always remaining close to boxing, Reid is now at the start of his career as a judge and already has his first WBF assignments under his belt.
Furthermore, he is in the process of establishing his own sports and nutritional company with the support of Ambe Business Centre.
“I have experienced some great moments in my boxing career and I can personally say along with hard work and dedication that your nutrition needs to be a high priority for any athlete,” says the man known as ‘Grim Reaper’. Of course, Reid will talk about this topic and his new business ambition during the WBF Convention.
Jean Marcel Nartz, WBF Vice President, is happy to meet up with Reid again and says:
“I have seen earlier this year that Robin is uncompromisingly honest when judging and that’s what we look for in WBF officials. So we certainly welcome him with open arms as a WBF judge.”
Interestingly, Nartz was the matchmaker for Reid’s highly controversial 2003 world title shot at Germany’s Sven Ottke.
