Four of the best upcoming fights of 2019

Boxing has enjoyed huge success in recent years, with fans being treated to a throwback attitude from fighters in terms of the best of each division colliding with their most fearsome and best-matched rivals.

For some time supporters of the sport were made to wait and wait for the biggest match-ups, but there has been a surge in truly great fights taking place of late, including across 2018.

That looks set to continue into 2019, with many massive big-name bouts having already been signed and sealed for the upcoming months.

With so many potentially entertaining fights on the horizon later this year, here are four of the most promising that fans have to look forward to across both the UK and America.

Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia

When the fight between Errol Spence Jr and Mikey Garcia was announced, many eyebrows were raised. Arguably the best welterweight world champion in the sport defending his crown against a challenger that has won a belt as low as featherweight? It made no sense.

But Garcia has always been in search of more and more straps, having won world titles in no less than four weight classes during the course of his illustrious career to date.

From featherweight up to light-welterweight, he has earned plenty of success. But many believe this could be a step too far against Spence Jr.

Terence Crawford v Amir Khan

One of the best bouts that can be made in boxing is that of Spence Jr taking on Terence Crawford, but unfortunately, that hasn’t yet come to fruition.

Instead, ‘Bud’ will soon mix it up with Britain’s Amir Khan in a fascinating matchup at Madison Square Garden.

Khan looks unlikely of being able to roll back the years and cause an upset here, with Crawford being arguably the best fighter on the planet pound-for-pound. It’s still an interesting one nevertheless, though.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez v Daniel Jacobs

After a famous but highly dubious rematch win over Gennady Golovkin, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez next takes on fellow middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs.

The Mexican is undoubtedly the biggest name in the sport and this Las Vegas unification showdown will definitely be another huge event on May 4.

Anthony Joshua v Jarrell Miller

The gloss may be taken off Anthony Joshua’s clash with Jarrell Miller due to Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury likely preparing to meet in a rematch.

But Britain’s unified heavyweight champion is still a huge draw and ‘Big Baby’ Miller is a controversial figure that will be great in the build-up to this encounter.
