Karaxha Still WBF Champion, Phillips Crowned

On Friday night, February 15, at the Galveston in Gent, Belgium, Elite Promotions presented “Elite Boxing Superstar 2”, headlined by two World Boxing Federation (WBF) championship fights.  In a clash between two foreign-born but Belgium-based boxers, reigning WBF International Welterweight Champion Meriton Karaxha, originally from Albania, successfully defended his title by unanimous decision over Rwandan Jean Pierre Habimana. After Another Dominant Victory, Detroit’s Ja’Rico O’Quinn Ready for the World

Detroit-based super flyweight Ja’Rico “Great Lakes King” O’Quinn notched yet another impressive victory last Friday night. Fighting in the co-main event of a show at the Sound Board in Detroit’s Motor City Casino and Hotel, O’Quinn (11-0-1, 8 KOs) scored a TKO 3 (2:38) over battle tested Mexican veteran Alex Rangel (17-9-4, 11 KOs). Will Free Streaming Take All of the Money Out of Pay Per View Boxing?  

On Fight Day, it only takes a few seconds typing into a search engine to find a bevy of links proclaiming to stream the fight for free. What's more - some of them actually work. The recent Pacquiao vs. Broner megafight was the latest victim of this stream sniping, but there was no news from either camp or the fight producer about having lost a substantial amount of money. One has to wonder, however: If fans can watch live boxing streaming for free, how long can the legitimate pay per view industry survive? Eventually, people will find the stream sniping links that work, and they will use them and tell friends about them. Once the technology is sound, taking down any individual stream sniper will not stop the show. WBO orders Donnie Nietes vs. Aston Palicte II

LAS VEGAS (February 6, 2019) - The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has ordered negotiations to begin for a rematch between reigning WBO Junior Bantamweight World Champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes and No. 1-ranked, mandatory challenger "Mighty" Aston Palicte. The WBO contacted the promoters for Nietes and Palicte, respectively, ALA Promotions and Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions, informing them that they have 15 days to reach an agreement regarding Nietes vs. Palicte II. If an agreement isn't reached by the Feb. 19th deadline, the WBO will order a purse bid. The minimal bid is $100,000, but either promoter may request a purse bid procedure at any time during the negotiation process.
