(ALBUQUERQUE) Matthew “Diamond Boy” Griego just discovered that Friday’s 10-round Main Event fight will be against an even tougher opponent. Fresquez Productions has announced that Jeronil Borres will face off against Griego in the final boxing match of MARCH BADNESS at Isleta Resort and Casino this Friday night.
Borres replaces Ronnie Baldonado who was unable to overcome visa problems in the Philippines. Borres is also from the Philippines but was already training in Los Angeles and has made his way to Albuquerque. Borres has a sparkling record of 14 wins (2 by KO) against just 4 losses with one draw. Albuquerque’s Griego is putting his undefeated record on the line.
“It’s a shame that Ronnie couldn’t make it, but Borres is actually a much stronger fighter,” said Lenny Fresquez, the promoter of March Badness. “Matthew told me that he is definitely up for the challenge and is looking forward to matching up against such a respected athlete.” promoter.”
Borres will be introduced to the local media in a press conference set for Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Isleta.
Having recently celebrated 25 years as a fight promoter, Fresquez is inviting every fighter from every one of his fights to return for a reunion. “Anyone who has fought in a Fresquez fight is invited to attend as my guest,” he said. “I hope they all show up so I can thank them for all the enjoyment I’ve experience in the last 25 years.” Fighters can request tickets through Annie Tu (annie@fresquezcompanies.com).
Fresquez will also be making 25 years of fight memorabilia available to boxing fans before and after MARCH BADNESS. “I’ve collected items from all our local events plus the many big pro bouts I’ve witnessed over the years. Fans can buy everything from autographed posters to signed gloves and all proceeds will go the Albuquerque Police Athletic League.”
Tickets for MARCH BADNESS are on sale right now at the Isleta Resort & Casino Box Office and at isleta.com.
