Tingen WBF Intercontinental Champ, Brown Wins International

Undefeated Dutch Champion Ben Tingen added the World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Cruiserweight title to his resume on Saturday night, May 25, at De Bonte Wever in Assen, Netherlands, beating Bosnian Ervin Dzinic. The fight was evenly contested and action-packed as long as it lasted, with both men landing hurtful punches, but when Tingen connected with a body-shot followed up by a right hand to the head and a left hook to the shoulder, Dzinic went down in agony. Claiming injury to the shoulder, Dzinic was unable to continue, forcing referee Mafudel Elghazaoui to count him out and wave the fight off at 0:58 of the fourth round to declare Tingen the new champion with a record of 10-0-1 (8). Dzinic falls to 7-3 (2). At the Big Punch Arena in Tijuana, Mexico, also on Saturday Read more [...]

Joshua: A victim of circumstance ahead of Ruiz bout

Anthony Joshua has received a lot of criticism over the years for his choice of opponent. We are seeing this again with his upcoming fight against Andy Ruiz Jr, and while he is admittedly a weak opponent in relation to Joshua’s trajectory towards ‘undisputed’ status, can Joshua be blamed for having this particular fight? In reality, this fight is a combination of circumstances that were out of Joshua’s control. He had booked a place in Wembley in April with the intention of fighting Deontay Wilder or Tyson Fury. However, after their draw, it seemed as though those two fighters were going to rematch. It was made clear then that the Wembley date wasn’t going to happen, and the expected Joshua v Wilder superfight remains firmly ‘on ice’, even though it is still a popular topic Read more [...]

Team Korobov Planning Official Protest of Aleem Fight Outcome

The co-promoter behind WBC #14-rated middleweight Matvey Korobov says Team Korobov will file a protest to Virginia State officials over their fighter’s highly controversial majority draw last Saturday (May 11) against Virginia-based fighter Immanuwel Aleem. Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing says Korobov is, at the very least, a victim of incompetent officiating after what seemed like a clear decision win for Korobov was initially announced as a majority decision victory and later changed to a majority draw, due a reported mistake in tabulating the scores. Korobov, from Florida, via Orotukan, Russia, had given an impressive performance in the well-fought 10-round bout, held in Aleem’s home state at the EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia. The Russian southpaw appeared to most Read more [...]

All Change For Joshua, But Everything Stays The Same

Heavyweight boxing would be nothing without upheaval and we’ve certainly seen some more of this in recent times. Step forward Anthony Joshua and his preparations for his long awaited American debut in June. Preparations that have taken something of a dent when it was announced that Jarrell Miller had failed drug tests and therefore would not be available for the fight in Madison Square Garden at the start of next month. This left Joshua without an opponent and, more importantly, promoter Eddie Hearn with some work to do in terms of finding one. Depsite this, although it may have taken more time than first planned, a New York duel will still go ahead. Stepping into limelight at relatively short notice is Andy Ruiz Jr, who in taking this fight will be looking to become the first Read more [...]

Navarro Dominates Prescott, Wins Unanimous Decision in Main Event of Rumble at the Rock V in Hollywood, Florida

(Friday, May 10,) Undefeated Cuban welterweight Livan “Machine Gun Kid” Navarro (11-0, 7 KOs) dominated former top contender Breidis Prescott over eight one-sided rounds tonight in the Hard Rock Event Center at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.  Fighting in the 10-round main event of Rumble at the Rock V “Night of the Undefeated,” presented by Kris Lawrence and The Heavyweight Factory, Navarro beat Prescott like a heavy bag and took shockingly little in return. The badly faded Prescott (now 31-17, 22 KOs) of Miami via Barranquilla, Colombia, tried in every round, but has lost the reflexes to land consistently against high-level competition. The free-swinging and entertaining Navarro landed with power to the head and body with shocking regularity.   The Read more [...]
